Good friend, Donna West  Inglis, is someone I met when I went too cooking classes in Tuscany a few years ago. I made many lifetime friends on that magical trip who I love and cherish. I even made a friend who had gone to the same class the week before and even though we have never met in person, we became fast friends because of this Italian connection.

 Donna was a free spirit. always ready to take part in whatever was presented. Long hikes through the hills of Tuscany, learning to make pasta in a farmhouse in Radicondoli, making cheese in the cheese factory,, searching for the best cookies in Sienna, and running around Rome with me looking for scarves. We had a great time, all of us, together.

Donna's story changed over the years. She met a wonderful man who not only loved and nurtured her but cared for her through dark times and back into the light.Theirs was a love story for the ages.

And on a beautiful day in the  romantic city of Paris, they vowed to love, honor and cherish for the rest of their lives.

I was unable tot make the reception a few weeks ago in their new home in Washington. A party I was so sad to miss.. But I wanted to mark this special occasion with a gift of love. Here it is. Their newest family member! Congratulation Donna and Jon. May you love as long as you Live, and Live as long as you Love.

Sunday in the Studio

Fall has always been my favorite time of year. Breathing in the crisp clear morning air puts a spring in my step and a desire to create. 

Fall is also the beginning of the long 18 week NFL schedule. This is the first weekend of the regular season. My husband has carved out a few hours of television viewing , dressed in his team colors, ( I don't make this stuff up) . Schedule at hand and remote at the ready, he gets comfortable on the den couch for the duration. 

While I too  love football , especially when the Seattle Seahawks are playing, watching grown men run back and forth on the gridiron for hours every Sunday is not my favorite pastime
This is my time to create. 

A couple of weeks ago,  I started the second phase of a painting I had previously sketched.  Here is where I ended that day. 

After a few peaceful, creative, music filled  hours this morning , this is where I have arrived. 

It's a hopeful beginning. After a few days of drying, I will continue this and share it with all of you.

Pumpkin Time

So much time has passed since I last posted on this Blog. Life ,for me, has been very busy. But isn't it always?  I am going to try my best to post more often.

I want to show the progress of my paintings from beginning to end.

This month, I am getting inot the Fall spirit by painting a group of Pumpkins. I love all the pumkin choices out there. I especially love the white ones with orange stripes. I find them so beautiful and festive.

I am currently painting a series of "Path" paintings for my new art concept,  Transcendent Art . Transcendent Art, which I have trademarked, combines my original oils with audio. The audio I have recorded guides one through my paintings using guided imagery, deep breathing, and visualization . For the past twenty five years I have been using these tools to help my patients deal with Anxiety, Depression, Interpersonal Conflicts and Low Self Esteem.

My daughter Lisa left me a gift of Sunflowers when she visited last month. They were so full of life and color and the promise of Fall that I was compelled to paint them.

Fall is here.



I love painting flowers. The experience is so free and easy. I have been working on a series of Hibiscus . It turns out there are over 80 different varieties. Here are three of my favorites.

Along the way I got sidetracked and tried my hand at other kinds of flowers. December inspired this painting of a Poinsettia.

My garden is filled with hydrangeas in the summer. Here are two of my favorites.

My daughter loves them as well ,so I painted this for a house warming gift. I was inspired by the flower stalls outside of a local market.

Painting with a Different Perspective

Over the years, I have painted many pictures with a rear-view perspective. There is something very interesting to me about seeing a person or animal from this angle. It allows you to anticipate a movement or expression without any bias of eye contact . I have shared some of my recent rear views here.

My granddaughter loved the tide pools in Kauai. I love this painting of her. I often paint figures from behind because I think they tell a much different story than ones viewed from the front. The body language is more refined when you have limited eye contact.

Another trip last year to Italy resulted in hundreds of unforgettable experiences. This photo, taken by my niece, especially touched a cord. Our host, Marlane , all dressed in red, walked through the poppy fields. I love the contrast of the colors and the expression from behind.

   

My  niece also took this picture of a friend’s puppy, Bailey, about to join the other dogs in the rapids of Montana. You can just feel the joy of anticipation here. Should he jump in or not? Big decisions here! His ears tell the story for me.

My daughter's two Himalayans, Sookie and Sebastian are best friends. They do everything together. Here they look out the window of their Washington kitchen, waiting for the rain to stop so they can go out and play. Cant' you just feel the longing?

When you get stuck picking a subject to paint or draw, try this approach. It's fun and gives you a whole new perspective on creating.
